what the...

okay so everyone has a weird working out at the GYM story (you know guys smelling like a cologne bottle, odd workout attire, people continaully starring at themselves in the mirror, etc, etc). Okay well I think I may have had the weirdest EVER today. I ran on the treadmill (when is the sun going to come out?) and it has become the past few days routine to head down to the sauna room - get in a good 15 minutes and then get in the jacuzzi (not bad, right?). So at the Y the sauna room and jacuzzi are in the women's locker room (and the men have their own as well). From the sauna room you can see the jacuzzi, it is literally 5 steps away. So I am sitting in there...boiling, my cheeks & ears were on fire and I was counting the minutes until I could go into the jacuzzi. WHEN all the freakin sudden some lady gets in the jacuzzi with her birthday SUIT on (yep, that's right BN*). I'm sitting there going "What THE?" and realizing she is kinda looking around to see if anyone sees her in there. Frustrated, I realize now I could not possilbly get in there, I don't care how much chlorine is in that bubbling paradise. agree or disagree.

In addition...this is an honest question and I would like to hear a few responses...are you really working out if you can read a magazine while you are doing it?

*BN=buck naked.

ok. that's seriously gross. there is a girl who comes to my gym in full make up and hair done with a magazine every day. she walks for 30 minutes at a 2.0 speed and then goes home. sometimes she leaves the treadmill on while she goes to the bathroom. it's so odd.

i also have a old man who uses an oxygen tank while on the treadmill and the old lady who uses the walker. gotta love them.

That is such a funny story!!! I laughed out loud.. I have seen a few naked ladies in my trips to the gym i work at... Not GOOD! And no you are not working out if you can read at the same time... but people go to the gym and pose... you know posers ... posing to work out. And I think you should have sat right next to the lady and started up a conversation!!

what the? I am wondering if maybe she has amnesia, and so she just forgot to put her suit on after taking off her clothes? was she an old grandma? that is definitley weird, and totally disgusting......i think you still are geting workout if you can read a magazine -- as long is your heart is elevated while doing so.....one time, i was reading so intently one of my HUGE financial accounting books --- and when I get reading stuff that is harder for me to understand, I actually go a LOT faster (on the eliptical) and i was doing it so fast apparently that i fainted....next thing i know i woke up on the ground of 24 hour fitness with a trainer asking me if i was ok and telling me my book landed on my head ----so that was a pretty weird story too --but i know i was working out HARD that day!!!!

Sick and Wrong. No way would I be getting in there with her. I honestly don't know what people think sometimes. It kills me the things people will do. Are you up for running the St. George Marathon this year??? Come on- you can run it with me!

I've had that same question go through my head-running on the treadmill, watching people read as they do their workouts-or fake workouts. I don't think its real. If you can read, your not putting enough effort in.

Gross!!! I don't ever want to get into a jacuzzi again.
I definitely can't read a magazine when I run but I'm not a pro yet!
I went swimming tonight...it kicked my booty...that is definitely going to be hard for me. First time though maybe it'll get easier!

EeeeeWWWWWW! When I was little we took swim lessons at the Deseret Gym (where the new conference center is now}. I vividly remember the ladies walking around "BN" with their you- know- whats down to their belly buttons! TRAUMATIZING!

Once at our gym there was a totally naked women laying in the sauna- I couldn't believe it. Like anyone is going to go in there and sit down next to her. We have a lot of women who blowdry their hair with no shirt on or take 10 minutes to rub lotion all over their bodies in front of everyone- I don't get it. And, there is no way you can run and read. I can read a book on the elliptical, but no way when I am running.

I know that I am almost a year late to this discussion, but I can't believe the responses...

Until the last 30 years, same sex nudity while swimming or in a sauna was the norm and noone thought twice about it. What has changed? What made us all decide that the body, made in the image of God, is "gross" or "disgusting?"

This is a modern American cultural phenomenon that makes no sense. In much of Asia and in much of Europe they have the opposite reaction... Bathing suits are forbidden in saunas and in hot springs, jacuzzis, etc. And for reasons actually related to good hygiene.

Bathing suits trap the body secretions within the fabric and give them time to putrify. When someone sweats or secretes nude, the secretions dissipate into the water and don't have the chance to putrify. If an American enters a hot spring in Japan with their bathing suit on, all of the Japanese will exit the water because it has just been contaminated by such a "gross" act showing no understanding of hygiene.
